Good Governance Forum

5th July 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Members only.

Our Good Governance Forum in July will tackle following question: What information and sources of information enable a board to focus on long-term drivers of value and embrace risk?

The focus of the Good Governance Forum in 2016 is on the implications for boards, and in particular on the role of the NED. The UK’s current governance system places considerable reliance on non-executive directors (NEDs). This has increased over the last few years, as the government’s response to scandals has been to give more responsibilities to NEDs and to increase the burden of compliance on boards. However, this is contrasted with increasing concerns of whether NEDs can fulfil this onerous role within current structures. There is a sense that the pendulum has swung too far towards independence, compliance and risk aversion. And that it may need to swing back towards encouraging entrepreneurial leadership.
