Launching ‘Tomorrow’s Business Owners’ with Lord Young

4th December 2013 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Tomorrow’s Company and Telos Partners would like to invite you to the launch of their new report ‘Tomorrow’s Business Owners’ kindly hosted at the Institute of Directors. Simon Walker, Director General of the IoD, will be introducing what we anticipate will be a lively and important discussion on the very relevant topic of SME growth and the critical role of entrepreneurs in the UK.

What is distinctive about this guide is that it provides insights from successful entrepreneurs and asks reflective questions which entrepreneurs should be asking themselves about their own businesses.

This report serves as a practical seven step guide that provides insight into how business owners can create and grow a successful and sustainable business which will thrive beyond the owner’s personal involvement. It not only gives practical business advice but sets out the stages of personal development a successful business owner goes through.

We are delighted that The Rt Hon the Lord Young of Graffham BL, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Enterprise, will be delivering a keynote address at this special launch. Lord Young has had a distinguished career as a British Conservative politician and businessman. He is now Adviser to the Prime Minister on Enterprise with an office in No 10 where he published the first report on Small Firms since 1971 in May 2012 “Make Business Your Business” which as well as reviewing all government and other help for new businesses introduced StartUp Loans, a programme enabling many thousands of young people under 25 to start working for themselves.

In May 2013 he published the second installment of his report on Small Firms entitled “Growing Your Business” which drew attention to the growing importance of micro firms. This recommended considerable changes to procurement practice in the Public Sector to enable Small Firms to compete for government contracts, harnessing Business Schools to focus on the small firms sector and recommending the introduction of Growth Vouchers amongst other matters. In July, the Prime Minister announced that government had accepted all his recommendations in full.

Adam Campbell is a partner at Telos Partners who leads Telos’ offer to business owners who want to create a substantial and meaningful business for the long-term. He will be joined by Mark Goyder, Founder Director of Tomorrow’s Company. After 15 years in the manufacturing businesses, Mark initiated the Royal Society of Arts and Commerce (RSA), Tomorrow’s Company Inquiry and consequently founded the business-led Tomorrow’s Company. Adam and Mark will be introducing the guide and setting out its key themes and conclusions.
