To improve public procurement – use the Trust Test
Public procurement is too often solely made on price, and not enough on true value and to account for areas...
Venue: Mazars LLP, St Katharine’s Way, E1W 1DD, London
I am delighted to invite you to join us for our 2011 Christmas reception jointly hosted with our members Mazars in their offices with impressive views overlooking the Tower of London. The reception will provide an opportunity to meet old friends and make new contacts within the Tomorrow’s Company and Mazars’ communities.
We are delighted that Kevin Murray, the Chairman of Bell Pottinger Group will begin the evening with a discussion of the key findings of his important new book ‘The Language of Leaders’. A high level panel will reflect on Kevin’s contribution, which will be followed by discussion and then an informal drinks reception to celebrate the Season.
Leadership has never been more important or more demanding. Whether leaders can communicate effectively is essential to their success and that of the businesses they lead but is generally taken for granted. Now leaders must excel in communicating in a radically different environment for which the occasional media or presentation training is simply not fit for purpose.
Kevin Murray, in his new book on the ‘Language of Leaders’, comments: “We follow leaders because of how they make us feel. So, if we want to be better leaders ourselves, how do we communicate in a way that inspires? What do we need to think about when framing our own leadership communication? Is there a system that experienced leaders use, a framework for thinking?” Kevin’s book will be launched on November 7th, and draws on in-depth conversations and interviews with 54 chairmen and CEOs.
Kevin is Chairman, Bell Pottinger Group and is a long-term friend and supporter of Tomorrow’s Company.
Increasingly business leaders need to succeed in a world of instant judgement and continuous communication, through social and ‘street’ media as well as established channels. Communications cannot be controlled and managed top down. Instead leaders must engage in a continual conversation which puts a growing premium on authenticity and integrity. To renew the business licence to operate, who trusts you is as important as what is said. As Kevin says,
Sustainability is the new ‘watchword’ – in terms of both the enduring success of the business and recognising economic, social and environmental interdependency. In the face of globalisation, fierce competition, uncertainty and systemic risk, leaders cannot rely on more and more data. There is a new imperative for a ‘crystal clear’ purpose and for the articulation of clear values which are seen and felt to be authentic because the leader themselves can be trusted and believed. The benefit is considerable: a business not only of leaders at all levels but also of communicators – able to translate what their business means to them in a way which builds confidence and builds success.
This event will be an opportunity to chat and mingle over drinks and canapés with valued clients, contacts, members and partners of Tomorrow’s Company and Mazars LLP.
Places at the event are limited so do please register in good time.
So we very much hope that you can join us for this very special Christmas Event.
